Driver Awareness (DA) training is designed to build safe, capable and confident four wheel drivers through a combination of theory, currently delivered via a Zoom session, and a practical component held over a weekend.
A dedicated 4WD training course
Delivered by our FWDV accredited instructors, the course gives members the essential knowledge and hands on experience needed to drive responsibly and safely in club environments.
New members are required to complete DA training before joining TLCCV trips, making it an important first step in becoming involved in our four wheel driving activities.
Practical component
The practical component is held over a weekend on specially constructed 4WD tracks at the club property in Yarck and covers:

Vehicles without the following equipment or not four wheel drive roadworthy will be excluded from the weekend training activity.
- 80 channel UHF radio & antenna
Fixed to vehicle, wired direct to battery recommended - Approved recovery points, front & rear
Attached to chassis with high tensile bolts - First aid kit
Recommended St John’s/Red Cross remote area type - Fire extinguisher
1.5kg dry powder with hose fitted recommended - Snatch strap/kinetic rope
Recommended 8000kg rated, - Rated shackles x 2

2m x 1m poly tarp or commercial ‘water bra’ - Tyre pressure gauge
